What appears to be a massive $1.4 billion data center campus will soon be breaking ground in Central Texas.

The new development by an industry giant is set for a booming tech hub just outside of Texas’ Capital City. Two $700 million Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) construction filings, totaling $1.4 billion, were submitted for a data center in Cedar Creek within Bastrop County, about 35 miles southeast of Austin. Global data center provider EdgeConneX is planning to build the campus as the company seeks to grow its footprint in the Lone Star State over the next few years. 

The first $700 million  filing is for a project called “EDCAUS11.” Its scope of work includes the construction of a nearly 730,000-square-foot, one-story data center with supporting office space and associated site improvements. According to the filing, the building is designed to be a type 2-B construction classification and will be fully protected by an automatic sprinkler system.

The second $700 million TDLR filing for a project named “EDCAUS12.” This will also be a nearly 730,000-square-foot, one-story data center with the same scope of work as the first. Both projects are expected to begin construction in June, with completion dates set for the end of December 2028. Details on TDLR filings are subject to change without notice.

In a December 2024 meeting, Bastrop County Commissioners Court awarded EdgeConneX a 10-year property tax abatement based on the project’s plans. While it’s unclear how much water this project will require, Bastrop County Precinct 4 Commissioner David Glass implied back in March that the data center could be using a new closed-loop system, which is reportedly designed to conserve public water usage. 

MySA reached out to the Bastrop County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and EdgeConneX for more information on the project’s water consumption, but did not hear back prior to publication.

This isn’t the only data center campus EdgeConneX has planned for the area. The Virginia-based company is also in the process of developing a $440 million data center facility at 6752 FM535 in Cedar Creek. That facility will encompass two stories and 578,000 square feet, according to the construction filing. The first of four buildings on that campus is scheduled to be finished by this June.
