KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tennessee Lady Volunteers take down Texas Tech 2-1 thanks to a walkoff home run by Emma Clarke in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Lady Vols are onto the Women’s College World Series semifinals on Monday.

The Lady Vols opened the WCWS with a 6-3 win over the defending National Champions Texas, 6-3.

Karlyn Pickens will start in the circle for Tennessee. Kaitlyn Terry will start for Texas Tech. The Lady Volunteers will be the home team on the scoreboard.

Pickens strikes out Mia Williams for out one. After giving up a single from the very next batter, Tennessee gets two quick outs and Pickens gets her second strikeout of the day for out three to get out of the inning unharmed.

To leadoff the bottom of the frame, Sophia Knight hits a slow roller to shortstop but speeds down the base path to beat out the throw. Texas Tech gets two quick outs to get out of the inning.

END 1ST | TEXAS TECH 0, TENNESSEE 0

It is a quick three up, three down for Tennessee as Pickens picks up her third strikeout of the game. Texas Tech got three quick outs in the bottom of the frame and we are still scoreless going into the third.

END 2ND | TEXAS TECH 0, TENNESSEE 0

Emma Clarke makes an amazing diving catch for a line drive at second for out one. Pickens then throws two groundouts for outs two and three to have another three up, three down inning.

Bella Faw leads off the bottom of the frame with a single to shallow right field. Taelyn Holley lays down a sac bunt to move Faw over to second. Sophia Knight gets hit by a pitch and Tennessee now has two on. Texas Tech brings in its ace Nijaree Canady to pitch. Elsa Morrison pops one up in foul territory for out two. Canady hits Ella Dodge and now the bases are loaded for Tennessee. Emma Clarke pops up to first base for out three and we remain scoreless through three innings.

END 3RD | TEXAS TECH 0, TENNESSEE 0

Pickens throws a ground ball and Dodge snow cones it at third base to get the out at first. Clarke charges at a ground ball and to make a great play at second for out two. Clarke then gets a slow roller back to her at second for out three. It is the third straight three up, three down inning for the Lady Vols.

Alannah Leach reaches first to lead off the frame after Texas Tech’s shortstop bobbles the groundball and Saviya Morgan comes in to pinch run for Leach. Canady strikes out McKenzie Butt for out one. Morgan tries to steal second and Texas Tech gets her on the throw down for out two. Gabby Leach smacks one to left center field for a single. Faw pops up in foul territory for out three.

END 4TH | TEXAS TECH 0, TENNESSEE 0

With two outs, Lauren Allred hits it in the gap between shortstop and second. Holley makes a great stop and throw in left field to keep it a single. Pickens strikes out Canady for out three and her fourth strikeout of the game.

Taelyn Holley hits a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth, her sixth of the season. Tennessee is on the board first. Texas Tech then gets three straight outs to get out of the inning.

END 5TH | TEXAS TECH 0, TENNESSEE 1

Pickens picks up her fifth strikeout for out one. Mia Williams then hits a double to the left center. On a hard hit groundball to center field, Williams tries to make it home but is out as Sophia Knight throws it right on the money to Elsa Morrison to make the tag for out two. Pickens then walks the next batter she faces. The Red Raiders have two on with two outs. Jasmyn Burns pops up to Dodge at third for out three and Tennessee gets out of the inning unharmed.

Emma Clarke grounds out to third to leadoff the inning. Alannah Leach lines out to second base. McKenzie Butt strikes out for out three and Tennessee only needs three more outs.

END 6TH | TEXAS TECH 0, TENNESSEE 1

Taylor Pannell leads off the inning with a single to shallow center field. Kaitlyn Terry draws a walk and there is two on with no outs for Texas Tech. Pannell and Terry both steal second and third to put two in scoring position for Texas Tech. Tennessee intentionally walks Allred to get the bases loaded with no outs. Pickens strikes out Lagi Quiroga for out one. Desirae Spearman files out to center field, on the throw home Elsa Morrison misses the tag on Pannell and Texas Tech ties things up. Sage Mardjetko comes in to pitch for Pickens with two on and two outs. Mardjetko walks Williams and the bases are loaded again for the Red Raiders. Alannah Leach makes an amazing dive out in left field to catch out three and we remain tied up at 1-1 going into the bottom of the inning.

Texas Tech brings Terry back in the circle to start the seventh. Gabby Leach pops up in foul territory for out one. Karen Weekly brings in Maddi Rutan to pinch hit. Terry strikes out Rutan for out two. Holley pops up to shallow center field, but it is caught for out three.

We are headed to extras.

END 7TH | TEXAS TECH 1, TENNESSEE 1

Mardjetko walks the first batter she faces to start the eighth, and then follows it up with a three-pitch strikeout for out one. Pannell hits a groundball to Dodge at third and she gets the lead runner at second. Pannell steals second, but Mardjetko throws a groundout for out three.

Knight pops it up to left field for out one. Morrison strikes out looking for out two. Terry picks up her third strikeout of the day, retiring Dodge. That is the third straight three up, three down inning for the Red Raiders.

END 8TH | TEXAS TECH 1, TENNESSEE 1

It is a 1-2-3 inning for Tennessee. Mardjetko picks up her second strikeout for out three and to get out of the inning.

Second pitch Emma Clarke sees, she hits a solo shot to walk it off! Tennessee takes down Texas Tech 2-1 and is on to the Women’s College World Series Semifinals!
