West Texas FC salvaged a draw with a penalty kick in stoppage time on Saturday night.
Ian Silva scored on a penalty kick in stoppage time to help West Texas FC secure a 3-3 draw with the Lubbock Matadors SC during a Ranger Division soccer match at Astound Broadband Stadium.
The refs blew the whistles to end the match after Silva’s timely goal as West Texas FC (0-1-1, 1 point) picked up its first point of the season during its first-ever home contest as members of the USL League 2.
The match had a wild ending as Silva’s goal came only minutes after Theo Butterworth scored to give the Lubbock Matadors SC (2-0-1, 7 points) a 3-2 lead. Butterworth received a yellow card for unsporting behavior on the goal.
The contest was tied at 1 at halftime after West Texas FC’s Diego Robles scored in the 10th minute and Mouhamed Diop countered with a goal for the Matadors in the 27th minute.
West Texas FC took a brief lead on a goal by Tom Nkassa in the 48th minute before the Matadors answered with a goal from Braden Schumacher in the 56th.
West Texas FC returns to the pitch on June 10 when it hosts Texoma FC at 7:30 p.m. at Astound Broadband Stadium.
