Texas rowing secures 4th national title in six years over Stanford, Tennessee

For the fourth time in six years, Texas rowing clinched a national title this weekend.

The Longhorns advanced all three “A” boats for the championship for the eight straight year. In Gainesville, Ga., Texas placed first in two of the three final, 2,000-meter events to give the Longhorns enough points to knock off reigning national champions, Stanford.

Texas finished with a total of 130 points while Stanford took second with 125 and Tennessee placed third with 119.

Event No. 48 was the I Four Final and the Longhorns finished first with a 6:35.728 time, a bit more than 5 seconds faster than second-place Tennessee.

The 50th event was Texas’ II Eight and the Longhorns were nearly 2 seconds slower than Stanford’s first place 5:52.905 finish. But Texas saved its best for last with a 5:47.706 time for the I Eight final and a championship.
