Fearless, funny, happy and sweet are just a few words the family of Jeremy Norman Carnes used to describe him.

Carnes, 45, has been identified by the Harris County medical examiner’s office as the man found around 10 p.m. on Oct.23 hanging and on fire under the Loop 610 underpass near Kirkpatrick. Union Pacific employees reported a brush fire at the location where the Houston Fire Department discovered Carnes’ body.

Officials with the Houston Police Department said suicide is “unlikely” but have not released any further details.

Carnes was known to his family and friends as “Boogie,” according to his obituary. He was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, and grew up in Liverpool, Texas.

“He spent a large portion of his childhood running the Bayou and Snug Harbor with his siblings, cousins and friends. This was his fun time catching crabs, picking blackberries, riding on the boat with his family,” the obituary says.

The cause of Carnes’ death has not been released.

“His end of life was unfair and tragic but those memories of being an amazing person will live on in us all,” the obituary reads.

Houston Police Department continues to investigate the incident and those with information should call HPD’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crimestoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
