Texas Tech softball forced extra innings against Tennessee, but the Red Raiders aren’t going to the national semifinals. At least not yet. 

TTU who leads the NCAA in batting average (.384), second in hits (635) and third in home runs (137) will meet its match in UCLA. The Bruins’ offense is led by Megan Grant who set the single season home run record and a UCLA career HR record this season. UCLA leads the nation in home runs (202), RBIs per game (10.10) and total runs (654). 

UCLA fell to the losers’ bracket after falling 6-3 to Alabama but saved its season with an 11-0 win over Arkansas. In order to stay alive in the Women’s College World Series and advance to one of the semifinals, the Bruins will have to beat Texas Tech. The winner of the elimination game will play Alabama at 6 p.m. Monday. 

Tech’s bats couldn’t muster up enough power against Tennessee’s bullpen. But will the power of both teams stack up in this do-or-die scenario?

Burns opened the inning with a walk. Valdez flied out to center field. Toney singled in the infield. Williams popped up to left field and Garcia was caught stealing third to end the inning. 

Alejandro struck out swinging. Bragg slipped a single up the middle. Ramirez grounded into a 5-4-3 double-play to end the inning. 

Toney flied out to open the inning. Williams homered to get some insurance for the Red Raiders. Davis singled to right center. Allred and Lis are walked. Pannell flied out to right field but Grant slips on the throw to home and Davis scored to extend the Red Raider lead 6-3. Terry flied out to end the inning.  

Grant flied out to lead off the inning. Woolery grounded out. Garcia struck out swinging. 

Pannell grounded out but Terry is walked. Burns flied out and the ball is caught on the track. Valdez flied out to left field and a pair of Bruins avoid dropping the ball on the collision. 

Berry and Lamar struck out swinging. Slimp flied out. Since coming in Terry, a UCLA transfer, has struck out three batters and allowed zero hits. 

Toney ripped a single up the middle. Williams is hit by another pitch. Davis grounded out to first and Allred’s sacrifice fly gave Tech the lead back. Lus struck out looking.

Terry missed the scoop in left field for Slimp to get a double to lead off the inning. Grant struck out swinging for the 13th time this season. Woolery is walked and Garcia is hit by a pitch. Alejandre is hit by a pitch and brings in a run to tie it, 3-3 and Canady is relieved by Kaitlyn Terry. Bragg struck out swinging and Ramirez popped out to end the inning with three Bruins left on base.

Terry flied out to left field. Burns struck out swining. Quiroga struck out looking. 

Bragg started with a single for UCLA. Ramirez flied out. Berry struck out swinging and Lamar struck out looking.  

Burns responds with a solo homer to start the inning. Quiroga grounded out and Toney struck out swinging. Williams rips a single along the third base line and Davis follows it with another single. Allred walked to load the bases and Tinsley walked Texas Tech back out front for the 3-2 lead. Tech leaves runners stranded as Pannell grounded out to end the inning. 

Slimp grounded out to start for UCLA. Grant followed it with a hit by pitch. Woolery gave UCLA the lead on a two-run home run to deep center field. Garcia struck out swinging and Alejandre grounded out to end the inning. 

Williams leads off the game with a deep single. Davis hits a single on the first pitch she sees and moves Williams to third. Tech is getting on Tinsley early and UCLA calls a timeout after just two pitches. Allred singles to the pitcher but is out at first; the throw to home is too late to get Williams but in time to third to get Davis for the first out of the game. Tinsley struck out Lis looking and Pannell follows it with an infield single. Terry grounded out to end the inning.
