A man died Saturday night after a stabbing in Fort Worth, and a suspect was later detained after approaching an officer and saying he believed he had stabbed someone, police said.
Fort Worth police were dispatched about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to an assault call in the 2400 block of Lillian Street in the city’s Central Division.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male with at least one stab wound, police said. Officers and Fort Worth Fire personnel provided medical care, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the suspect was not at the scene when officers arrived.
About 11:50 p.m., officers at the 2500 block of Northeast 28th Street encountered a person who approached an officer and stated that he believed he had stabbed somebody, according to police.
The person was detained and taken to the crime scene, police said. It’s unclear if the suspect is facing any charges in connection with the stabbing.
Fort Worth police homicide detectives are investigating the stabbing. Authorities said details about what led to the altercation are still being gathered.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death and confirm the identity of the victim.
