ESPN’s College GameDay returns to Lubbock next week for Tech-BYU game

  • November 2, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Just minutes the clock expired on Texas Tech’s 43-20 win at Kansas State, ESPN announced on social media that their iconic Saturday morning show, College GameDay, would return to Lubbock for the first time since 2008- when then No.7 Tech beat No. 1 Texas 39-33, courtesy of Graham Harrell’s last-second pass to Michael Crabtree- a play that has become legendary.

For some of the players, a chance to be featured on ‘Game Day’ is a long-time coming.

“Lubbock’s going to be jumping for sure. I know this is a big thing for Texas Tech, it’s been some time since they’ve come to Lubbock, so I’m excited about it,” said quarterback Behren Morton moments after GameDay was announced.

Since head coach Joey McGuire has long prided himself on being a ‘players coach’, he says GameDay is a great opportunity for the program and his players.

“It’s just so special to have college football, because as a player- it’s a dream to be a part of that,” he said.

More details for the ‘GameDay’ setup will be disclosed throughout the week. The Red Raiders take the field against the BYU Cougars 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium.
