LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A man is in custody accused of attempting to steal a woman’s car Friday morning.
Officers responded to a report of an attempted carjacking in the 800 block of Broadway Ave. just before 10:30 a.m.
An off-duty Lubbock Police officer, who was at the courthouse for a trial, observed an altercation involving a woman with a child and a man trying to steal her car. Police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Isaiah Houston.
As the officer approached, Houston ran away. A chase started, and a privately contracted security guard employed by Citibus joined the pursuit.
During the foot chase, the security guard shot his weapon before Houston was caught. Police say Houston was armed with a knife.
He was taken to UMC with moderate injuries.
