The Arizona-founded organic groceries and specialty products chain Sprouts registered plans for its inaugural grocery store in the Austin suburb of Hutto, according to project filings registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) on May 29. The estimated $4.8 million storefront is poised to kick off construction work in mid-September 2026 ahead of a tentative construction completion date in early February 2028. TDLR filings are estimates, and both cost and timeline figures are subject to change without notice.
The grocery store will be located at the northeast corner of State Highway 130 and U.S. Highway 79 in Hutto, per project documents, and will comprise approximately 23,299 square feet of space. While it marks a first for Hutto, it’s by no means Sprouts’ first introduction to both the Lone Star State and the Austin metro area.
Currently, there are 65 Sprouts stores either operating or near completion across Texas. Here in the capital area, there are four storefronts within Austin city limits as well as locations in nearby communities like Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Bastrop, New Braunfels and Kyle.
It’s also not the first news of a proposed Sprouts that has circulated within Hutto. In July 2025, the Hutto Economic Development Corp. fielded a real estate presentation regarding “Project Sprouts,” a proposal that flagged a potential 14-acre retail development anchored by the natural grocer.
“One thing we have continued to hear is grocery is a much-needed use in these areas,” Adam Zimel with Endeavor Real Estate Group said during that July 2025 meeting. “We’re hoping to overcome that limitation.”
