Police responded to gunfire early Saturday morning. One person was killed and several others detained for questioning.

BELLAIRE, Texas — One person is dead after what police believe was an exchange of gunfire between two groups of people in Bellaire early Saturday morning. 

Just after 3 a.m., a Bellaire police officer on patrol heard multiple gunshots near Bellaire Boulevard and South Rice Avenue. When the officer checked the area, they found three “agitated” people outside a vehicle in the parking lot of a gas station on Bellaire Boulevard.

Police said those three people said they were robbed by a group of men in a gray Honda sedan that took off westbound on Bellaire. Officers found several shell casings scattered nearby.

A short time later, assisting agencies spotted a gray Honda in another parking lot at on Bellaire Boulevard. Two men were trying to help a third man who had been shot multiple times. Officers began CPR, but the man was pronounced dead a little before 3:30 p.m., police said.

Investigators believe gunfire may have been exchanged between the groups. Everyone involved has been detained as the investigation continues.
