LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock Fire Rescue crews extinguished a structure fire at a vacant two-story home near the 1700 block of 18th Street after a caller reported smoke and flames, officials said.
Firefighters arrived to find the building fully engulfed and began fire suppression and a search operation, LFR said.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire started on a mattress in a downstairs apartment and spread up an exterior wall into the doorway of an upstairs apartment, according to Lubbock Fire Rescue.
One firefighter suffered a leg injury after stepping through a hole in the floor of the second-floor apartment during operations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office.
