EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A convicted child sex offender out of El Paso County was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
42-year-old Steven Leckenby was arrested in January 2025 for sexual assault on a child and aggravated incest following an extensive investigation into sexual assaults on children by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said allegations dated back to 2012 and involved multiple victims.
The sheriff’s office said Leckenby accepted a plea deal for sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse in a position of trust involving a victim under 15 years old.
As a result of the plea deal, Leckenby was sentenced to 15 years to lie with an indeterminate parole term of 20 years to life and was designated a sexually violent predator.
El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal released a statement following the sentencing.
“There is no place in our community for those who prey on the innocence of children. These heinous crimes not only shatter lives but also undermine the trust and safety every child deserves. With this conviction, an individual who exploited and victimized the innocent will no longer be able to harm members of our community.
I am grateful for the dedication and persistence of our detectives, whose tireless work helped bring justice in this case. Most importantly, we recognize the tremendous courage of the victim who came forward — an act of extraordinary bravery that made accountability possible and reflects incredible strength in the face of trauma.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to pursuing justice for victims, holding predators accountable, and protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.”
