LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The main theme today is hot with conditional storm chances, then cooler temperatures with repeated storm chances and a growing heavy rain concern.
Today will be hot with highs mainly in the mid to upper 90s.
Moisture has been steadily climbing with dewpoints nearing the 60s by this afternoon. That added humidity will make the air feel heavier and help fuel potential thunderstorms later today and tonight.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern New Mexico this afternoon.
Storms tonight may start near the TX/NM state line(KCBD)
Winds in the higher atmosphere remain fairly weak, which may limit how far east these storms push. But don’t be surprised if you wake up to a few booms of thunder overnight.
Scattered storms possible this week(KCBD)
If storms do develop, some could become briefly severe with quarter size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

An outflow boundary from storms farther north may also help trigger isolated storms closer to home this evening.
By Wednesday, temperatures cool noticeably as clouds and scattered rain move into the area. Highs are expected to call back into the 70s and 80s for many communities.

Additional rounds of rain and storms are expected Wednesday afternoon and night as disturbances continue to move overhead from New Mexico.
As the week continues, the overall severe weather threat appears relatively low, but the flood risk may gradually increase. The repeated rounds of storms could produce locally heavy rainfall and repeatedly track over the same areas, increasing the potential for localized flooding.
