LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The excitement surrounding the championship finals series is felt all across Lubbock.
Some fans are looking to make the trip to Oklahoma City ahead of the championship finals series against Texas.
“They ended up winning both games yesterday, so I had them in my cart and the minute that ball went in the air, I clicked and got tickets and we’re leaving tomorrow,” Toby Metcalf said.
“We are going to the game. I found out this morning and I’ve been laughing about it ever since, so excited,” Gaylyn Westbrook said.
Team’s progress draws fans
The team has come a long way from where they were just two years ago.
“They have incredible talent. Every single one of our girls are unique, and every game I’ve watched this year, I’ve been on the edge of my seat,” Metcalf said.
“Oh my goodness, I’m packing my defibrillator I mean it gets more exciting every time. It’s an exciting thing to watch, if you’ve never watched college softball, you need to, because it’s a sport like no other,” Westbrook said.
Lauren Spiegelberg, operations manager for Red Raider Outfitter, said seeing people come in and embrace the softball culture has been a lot of fun to watch.
“I think we gained huge momentum last year and brand new fans. I think this year has been really exciting because we have returning fans that are brand new to the softball world. Especially all the little girls that are getting to see this on the big stage I think is one of the most incredibly important points, so we’ve got fans coming out of the woodworks all over the nation to support the Lady Raiders,” Spiegelberg said.
Fans are adding to their wardrobe ahead of a chance to witness Texas Tech bring home a national championship.
