Neiman Marcus is closing its downtown Dallas store — for real this time. 

Here’s what we know about the closure of Neiman Marcus at 1618 Main Street:

The Neiman Marcus in downtown Dallas will close on September 30.

Saks Global acquired Neiman Marcus in 2024, but the joined company has since declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Amid restructuring, the company has already begun to streamline the company with various store closures. Geoffroy van Raemdonck, who became CEO of Saks Global around when the company declared bankruptcy, told The Dallas Morning News that the downtown location is not profitable, and the company wants to focus its efforts on the NorthPark Center Neiman Marcus, which does 10 times the sales as the downtown location.

News broke in early 2025 that Saks Global planned to close the location on March 31, 2025. Part of the impetus was a lease dispute, as the land the store sits on has multiple leaseholders. However, on March 28, it was announced that the downtown Neiman Marcus would remain open through the holiday season while they explored, as Saks Global said, “a reimagination of the location in collaboration with the City of Dallas.”

The company plans to focus on the NorthPark Neiman Marcus, which it plans to infuse with certain iconic elements of the downtown store, such as turning the Neiman Marcus Cafe into The Zodiac Room. The downtown store’s bridal salon, which doesn’t have an equivalent at NorthPark, is still the subject of discussion, but Saks Global intends to eventually serve brides out of NorthPark.

Some affected employees will be offered transfer to nearby Neiman Marcus locations, while others will qualify for separation packages. Certain corporate employees who work in the downtown store will also move, and Saks Global is in the process of finding a spot in D-FW for corporate offices. The company closed Neiman Marcus’ former corporate headquarters at Cityplace Tower in 2025.

The first Downtown Dallas store was founded in 1907, meaning the brand has had a presence for about 118 years. However, a fire destroyed the first store, and the current location was opened in 1914.
