SMU football may be adding a 5-star wide receiver to its roster, just not in the most expected fashion.
According to a report from On3, former professional baseball player Jordyn Adams, 26, has enrolled at SMU with the intention to play football for the Mustangs.
Adams, a top football prospect from North Carolina and the third-ranked wide receiver in the Class of 2018, according to 247 Sports, was selected No. 17 overall in the 2018 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
He made his way through the minors as an outfielder and made his major league debut with the Angels in 2023. Adams would go on to appear in 38 total MLB games from 2023-25 with both Los Angeles and Baltimore.
After signing a minor league deal with Milwaukee for the 2026 season, Adams split time between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville before being released last week.
Adams, at 6-1 and 181 pounds, had signed to play football and baseball at North Carolina coming out of high school, but instead chose the professional baseball path.
