EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso leaders celebrated a donation from Airbnb to combat human trafficking in Texas.

On Wednesday, Airbnb presented a $225,000 donation to four Texas anti-human trafficking organizations– two of those in El Paso.

The two El Paso organizations are:

Paso Del Norte Center of HopeCenter Against Sexual and Family Violence

Representatives from both these organizations thanked Airbnb for their donation, which they explained can be used in whatever area their organizations notices it is urgently needed.

“So whether it be food, advocacy, counseling, birth certificates– those kinds of things– are easily met with these funds,” said Sandra Nevarez Garcia, Executive Director of the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence.

Meanwhile, in a written statement, Nicole Schiff, Executive Director of Paso del Norte Center of Hope, stated, “Unrestricted funding is especially valuable because it allows us to direct resources where they are needed most and adapt quickly to emerging challenges. This partnership strengthens our ability to provide life-changing services and helps ensure that more people in our community can move from crisis to stability.”

Speaking with KFOX14/CBS4, Blanco said that human trafficking is such a big problem that it requires cooperation from all levels of government and partners in the private sector.

“There’s never enough federal dollars or state dollars or local dollars,” Blanco said to fight human trafficking.

“Today’s message from Airbnb and all of our local nonprofit organizations is that, ‘we see you, we hear you and we’re here to support you,'” Blanco said.

In a written statement, Blanco further explained the convenient timing of this check.

“As Texas prepares to welcome visitors from around the world for major events like the FIFA World Cup, raising awareness and supporting survivors is more important than ever,” Blanco wrote.

According to Airbnb, the donation is part of the company’s Community Fund, a worldwide initiative the company launched in 2020 to donate $100 million to communities across the globe through 2030.

The other two non-profits in Texas that will benefit from this donation are:

Unbound Now, serving 46 counties in Texas, but headquartered in Fort Worth.United Against Human Trafficking (UAHT), based in Houston.
