EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso rescue dog has become the U.S. Border Patrol’s newest recruit, becoming the first rescue dog to be a Critical Incident Response K9.
The U.S. Border Patrol announced its newest four-legged recruit, Chloe, on Wednesday, June 3, in a social media post by Chief Rosario Vasquez.

“The USBP Canine Academy and the El Paso Rescue League partnered to give dogs like Chloe a stable and safe place to belong—a second chance. Today, she has a badge and a vital mission: to provide comfort and support to our agents and their families during difficult times,” read part of the social media post.
According to USBP, the Critical Incident Response Canine Program launched in 2022 as a part of a mental wellness effort.
