HOUSTON — A 3-year-old boy was hit and killed by a pickup truck late Saturday night in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD investigators said the crash happened around 10:40 p.m. at an apartment complex in on Ocee Street, just south of Richmond Avenue.

Police said the child was walking with his mother across the apartment complex parking lot when something caught his attention and he tried to cross the street.

That’s when a red Toyota pickup truck hit the child and did not stop to render aid, investigators said.

The truck was later found unoccupied, according to HPD.

Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division is handling the investigation.

No other details have been released.
