Fans inside the Frost Bank Center and glued to their television sets suffered heartbreak on Wednesday night as the San Antonio Spurs fell to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals. However, anyone watching the game saw the action abruptly stop in the fourth quarter as a fan rushed onto the court.
The fan rushed onto the court and filmed himself taking a selfie with Victor Wembanyama, much to the confusion of New York Knicks forward Mitchell Robinson, before he was dragged away by security. The Spurs went on to lose 105-95, and we’re guessing the fan didn’t help things.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office told MySA that the fan is a juvenile, so his name and arrest information cannot be released.
Whoever he is, he can expect a lifetime ban from the NBA and could face criminal charges, as entering a restricted area of a stadium in Texas is illegal, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Criminal trespass and disorderly conduct charges are punishable by up to 180 days in jail. That punishment will vary given his juvenile status, but he also could be out a few thousand dollars for buying courtside seats.
In response to the incident, Wembanyama told the media, “I’ve never been in that situation. I didn’t know how to act. It really surprised me, almost as much as that time where a bat crossed the court.”
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson didn’t dwell on the moment, saying, “I don’t think it was an event at all. I thought security got him out of there. I think everybody moved on to the next play.”
POV video of the fan rushing the court has spread across social media, but it’s unclear where it was originally posted. So, either he had time to post it before getting taken away, or he’s out of jail and awaiting a court date.
