A Corpus Christi teenager accused of trying to kill a police officer and threatening two other juveniles with a handgun is on trial this week in Nueces County.
Court records show Carlos Lee Suarez Jr., now 17, faces charges of attempted capital murder of a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.
He was transferred from juvenile court and will be tried as an adult.
According to court documents, prosecutors allege Suarez threatened two juveniles with a handgun on July 7, 2024.
Prosecutors also allege Suarez attempted to shoot and kill a Corpus Christi police officer while trying to avoid arrest on Dec. 7, 2024.
In a separate charge, prosecutors claim Suarez possessed a handgun modified with a “Glock switch,” a device that allows a firearm to fire automatically. Court records state the weapon was not registered as required by federal law.not the
A Nueces County judge later transferred the case from juvenile court to adult criminal court, citing the seriousness of the allegations.
Court records show Suarez was 15 years old at the time of the alleged offenses.
