El Paso, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Boxing will return to the El Paso County Coliseum on July 18 when Ring Wars 23 brings a card packed with local fighters back to the Borderland.
A press conference was held on Tuesday at Charlie Clark Nissan and Infiniti to introduce the lineup of fighters scheduled to compete in July. Among the familiar names on the card are Jorge “El Jaguar” Tovar, Nayeli “La Bikina” Rodriguez, Pedro “El Pantera” Rodarte, and Dominic “Can’t Stop Dom” Barry.
El Paso native Victor Aranda is also set to fight. Aranda is 7-0 with six knockouts early in his career and will face fellow up-and-comer Elijah Martinez, who enters at 7-1. Aranda said he is focusing on conditioning ahead of the matchup.
“Right now, I’m just going to concentrate more on my strength and conditioning because I know my opponent has a lot of experience,” Aranda said.
He added, “Well, based on my experience from past fights, it’s never enough conditioning for a fight. So we always want more because you want to be secure. You know, if I. If my opponent is very tough, I need to be tougher.”
Other matchups on the card include undefeated Jorge “El Jaguar” Tovar against Ulices Tovar Rivera, whose nickname is “El Toro.”
Rodriguez, the UBO Intercontinental lightweight champion of the world, is scheduled to face Albuquerque’s Brandi Montoya.
Barry is still awaiting an opponent for his bout.
