EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — An 82-year-old woman in Central El Paso says an ongoing water line problem in front of her home has left her without access to her driveway for more than a month, and she worries conditions could worsen as monsoon season approaches.

Camilla Romero, who lives off Turney Drive, said the issue has persisted despite repeated attempts to reach El Paso Water.

“There’s still water coming out and still nothing has been done and this is the result. I don’t have a driveway,” Romero said.

Romero said the problem began on April 23 and that additional damage followed a week later on April 30.

“This problem started April the 23rd down the street and it still hasn’t been fixed,” Romero said.

Romero said she has contacted El Paso Water multiple times but has not heard back.

“No response– will call, will call– no response and this has caused me stress. I’m 82 years old,” Romero said.

Neighbor Blanca Kirkwood said other residents have also tried to contact the utility.

“Well, my husband called them too, because, I mean, we see all the damage here,” Kirkwood said.

In a statement, El Paso Water said two main breaks were reported, one on April 23 and another on April 30, and that both were repaired within hours.

The utility said recent rain has delayed the project, but contractors are expected to begin compacting sand on Monday, with work expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

El Paso Water also addressed concerns about residents reporting that they received no response when calling.

The utility said a construction superintendent was not able to make contact with the customer in person, but a representative will follow up to provide an update.

Romero said conditions around her home have remained difficult.

“It’s a mess this morning, it was a swimming pool, mud,” Romero said.

Residents said they are still waiting for the work to be finished and that their biggest concern is making sure the area is safe and accessible until repairs are complete.
