Edie Falco has her sights set on joining the world of superheroes. The “Sopranos” alum revealed during a press conference at the Tribeca Festival Lisboa that she’d love to take on a role in a superhero film, which is a sharp turn from her usual dramatic performances.
“I’d like to be a female superhero,” Falco said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s so out of my realm of experience, certainly in real life and in movies. That would be a lot of fun.”

Best known for her Emmy-winning roles in “The Sopranos” and “Nurse Jackie,” Falco said she thrives on portraying complicated, layered characters and has never encountered a role she couldn’t handle.
“I’ve yet to be stumped. Never have I said I can’t do that,” she explained. “You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.
“I look for those [complicated characters]. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”

Falco, 62, added that she feels fortunate to have played a wide range of complex women throughout her career. “I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”

The “Mayor of Kingstown” actress admitted that she may have benefited from not being typecast early on. “I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older,” she said.
Looking ahead, Falco is also intrigued by the idea of playing a political figure. “Maybe I can get something out of my system,” she quipped.
Known for her political activism, the “I’ll Be Right There” star acknowledged that current social and political tensions go beyond women’s rights alone. “Difficulties for women right now is just difficulties for humans in the culture that we’re living in, certainly in America,” she said. “We’re all just hanging on by our fingernails.”
