ATHENS, Ga. (WJBF)- The Georgia Bulldogs are two wins away from their first trip to the College World Series since 2008. Standing in their way are the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The two will play a best-of-three series starting Saturday here at Foley field in Athens.
The two teams met four times during the regular season and the bulldogs from Athens swept the bulldogs from Stark-Vegas.
Georgia’s slogan is feed the trees, a reference to the trees beyond the outfield fence here in Athens.
The bulldogs are on a record-setting home run pace, but know they’ll need an all-around performance to advance this weekend over Mississippi state.
“They are a quality ballclub. They’ve been all really close games. You know, we’ve come out and just grind it out. All of those games on the road, you look know most of them we were behind early and then came back to win those games. So, you know, we just got to stay the course and play our brand of baseball,” said head coach, Wes Johson.
“Of course, we’ve got to, you know, do some refreshers. Um, but yeah, I mean, we have a pretty good idea of like what kind of what we’re getting ourselves into. And I’m sure you know the same for them because I’m not that common to play another team as much as we have. Um, so, you know, we know what we’re getting into, but definitely still get over some stuff,” said player, Daniel Jackson.
Set your alarm and put on a pot of coffee or whatever beverage you chose. It’s an early first pitch on Saturday at 11am at Foley field.
