Buc-ee’s in New Braunfels ranked No. 2 among the best family rest stops in the United States, according to a study released by SIXT+, a car subscription service that analyzed some of the country’s most recognizable roadside destinations.

The New Braunfels location earned an overall score of 90.2 out of 100, finishing behind only Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley, West Virginia. Another Buc-ee’s location in Warner Robins, Georgia, also landed in the top five, finishing fourth overall.

The study comes as the summer travel season gets underway and millions of Texans prepare to hit the road. Researchers cited data showing 71% of Americans plan to drive to their next vacation in 2026, while online searches for “best rest stops” have surged over the past year.

To compile the rankings, SIXT+ evaluated 30 frequently cited rest stops across the country using four equally weighted categories, including popularity, convenience and accessibility, family-friendly amenities and nearby dining options.

The New Braunfels Buc-ee’s received a perfect score for convenience and accessibility and tied for the highest dining score in the study. Researchers said only a narrow margin in popularity and family facilities separated it from the top-ranked destination.

Located along one of Texas’ busiest highway corridors between San Antonio and Austin, the travel center has become a regular stop for travelers heading to the Hill Country, South Texas and beyond. The location is known for its large footprint, extensive fuel stations and wide range of food offerings and retail merchandise.

For a travel center that has become a destination in its own right, the latest ranking adds another accolade to a New Braunfels location that already attracts visitors from across Texas and beyond.
