Set 1

Kentucky won the first set hitting .571 en route to a convincing 25-14 opening frame win. Eva Hudson hit .600 for the set with a whopping six kills to no errors and her teammate Brooklyn DeLeye pumped five kills to the floor on six swings with no errors to hit .833 for the set as Kassie O’Brien had 13 assists on 16 of UK’s kills in the frame. UK jumped out to a quick start winning 10 of the opening 15 points of the match as Texas was forced to call an early timeout down five. Out of the timeout, the Horns ran off two in a row, but it was all Kentucky from there as the Wildcats hammered three-straight pin attacks to the floor with a stuff block thrown into the mix as UK’s lead grew to 18-10 and UT called its final timeout of the frame. The Wildcats closed things out off a kill from Eva Hudson on an out-of-system swing from the left side and Kentucky grasped control of the match with a decisive first set. Kentucky as a team had zero attack errors.

Set 2

Set two was following a similar script as the opening set as Kentucky took a 19-12 lead in the midparts of the frame as Eva Hudson slammed her 12th kill to the floor and Texas called its first timeout trailing by a set-high seven points. The Longhorns then had an impressive run where they won seven of the next eight points to draw even with the Wildcats and it was UK’s turn to burn a timeout, trailing for the first time all afternoon in the match. With the score level at 22-20 in favor of the Longhorns, Kentucky turned to Eva Hudson, who had just rotated to the back row, where she logged a pair of kills from behind the 3-meter line to make things 23-22 and UK was right back in it. Texas picked up set points at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 but each time, UK was able to respond with heroic kills out of the back row to make things level again. Kentucky arrived at its first set point at 27-26 thanks to a huge stuff block by Kennedy Washington out of the middle, and an out-of-system swing from Eva Hudson on the left side ended the dramatic set, 28-26 in Kentucky’s favor as UK took a two sets to none lead in the match.

Set 3

It was Texas that had a majority of the control in the third set as it led from the get-go with a 3-0 run and exploded out to a lead that was as much as three points at two different times, 10-7 and 16-13. Kentucky slowly but surely led by the strong serving of Molly Berezowitz and Molly Tuozzo crept back into the thick of things and pulled to within once, but finally squared the set on Brooklyn DeLeye’s 15th kill of the match to tie things up at 20-20. UK then took its first lead of the late stanza of the set at 23-22 before the Longhorns responded with a sideout to make things 23-23. UK picked up match point at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 as a net fault ended the match on a swing by Brooklyn DeLeye from the left pin to push UK over the finish line, 27-25 in the third.
