On Saturday night, the Texas baseball team will open a super regional against Oregon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
This super regional is a best-of-three series that will send its winner to the College World Series. The No. 6 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, Texas (43-13) opened its postseason run last week with a regional sweep of Holy Cross, Tarleton State and UC Santa Barbara. The 11th-seeded Ducks (43-16) went 3-0 against Yale, Washington State and Oregon State in its regional.

Texas, which last hosted a super regional in 2021, is trying to secure its 39th trip to the College World Series. Oregon last qualified for the College World Series in 1954.

During the Austin regional, six Longhorns – Anthony Pack Jr., Aiden Robbins, Jayden Duplantier, Carson Tinney, Ethan Mendoza and Adrian Rodriguez – went deep. On Saturday, Casey Borba got in on the fun with the first homer of UT’s super regional. The 395-foot blast into the Ford tailgate area in right field was the 18th home run of Borba’s junior season.

That home run was also the 100th of UT’s season. With that swing, Texas joined FDU as the only teams to record 100 homers and 100 steals this season. According to Texas, no other baseball program from a Power 4 conference has reached that milestone in the past 15 years.
But while Borba provided Texas with a highlight, the inning’s biggest play may have involved speedy outfielder Dariyan Pendergrass and Texas coach Jim Schlossnagle. With one out, Pendergrass was called out on an attempt steal of third base. Pendergrass and third-base coach Nolan Cain immediately implored Schlossnagle to challenge the play, which he did. After the call was overturned, Pendergrass scored UT’s fourth run on a sacrifice fly.
Texas is on the scoreboard first. With two outs, Adrian Rodriguez brought home two teammates with a double off of Oregon starter Cal Scolari. The double was Rodriguez’s 15th of the season, which ranks on the Texas roster behind just the 16 doubles recorded this season by Anthony Pack Jr.
Oregon got its leadoff hitter to third base with two outs in the opening inning, but Dylan Volantis’ third strikeout of the inning ended the threat. Volantis threw two wild pitches in the first inning, which tied a career-high for the sophomore left-hander.
