LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – update 11:54 p.m. – The storm has cleared Lubbock, and has weakened a little bit, now with the potential for 50-60mph gusts.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue quickly moving eastward, pushing off of the Caprock.
update 11:02 p. m. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Lubbock, much of Lubbock County, NE Lynn, Crosby and NW Garza counties.
A 65mph gust was measured at the Texas Tech Mesonet site at Reese Center, in far west Lubbock, then a 71mph gust at that site. This storm could produce gusts of 60-70mph, small hail and heavy rain
Unlike the slow-moving rain this morning, this storm won’t stick around for long. It is moving to the SE around 40mph.

Drought-denting rain has impacted many in the South Plains today and over the course of the past several days.
It’s been a very beneficial last 48 hours for rain in most of the South Plains. We’ll see how it impacts the drought monitor but I would expect to see at least some slight improvements(Dylan Smith)
Unfortunately, we’re seeing the end of that wet streak arrive as our rain chances dry up tonight and move on starting tomorrow.
TONIGHT
A few lingering showers could persist until around midnight as the low-pressure system associated with the rain today continues to move further to the northeast.

Temperatures will stay mild in the 60s overnight with a light breeze of 5 to 10 mph.
SUNDAY
Gorgeous and sunny! High temperatures will jump more than 10 degrees from Saturday’s highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s as we get back to the mid 90s for most this afternoon.
It’ll be a much warmer day coming up tomorrow than we’ve been the last several days at least(Dylan Smith)
I don’t think we’ll see much in the way of cloud cover most of the day so grab the sunscreen if you’re heading out the door!
EXTENDED WEATHER PATTERN
High pressure begins to take over starting Sunday as high temperatures climb into the 90s for most of the area.

We’ll see some variation of low, mid and high 90s for most of next week with likely a few 100s mixed in there as well at times.
We’re mostly dry for the next few days before some light rain chances start to kick up mid-week(Dylan Smith)
I expect the first half of the week to stay dry as we then introduce a light chance of some showers beginning Wednesday and continuing into next weekend.
