According to a recent poll of about 3,000 single Texans, there are a few unexpectedly romantic spots in the Lone Star State — and one of them is a place you might pass by every day.
The most unexpectedly romantic spot in Texas is the River Walk foot bridge here in San Antonio, according to the a poll by online casino ACE.com. “The River Walk is already romantic, but the footbridges keep it just accidental enough: people pausing for photos, dodging groups, deciding where to eat, and pretending they are not lost on purpose,” the poll reads. “It is scenic, busy, and full of tiny opportunities for conversation. A spark could start when someone offers to take a picture, asks for directions, or both people agree the ducks are acting like they own the place.”
It might be more likely to see someone dunking themselves in the water to look for a lost phone or to find yourself caught behind a family of slow walkers, but who’s to say you’ll never have a meet-cute at this tourist attraction?
The second spot on the list is slightly more convincing: Fort Worth’s Stockyards. You might be thinking that the Stockyards are just another place for inebriated people to pretend they know how to line dance, and you might be right, but respondents felt differently. “Everyone is packed along the street, phones ready, sharing the genuine excitement of watching longhorns walk past like celebrities,” according to the poll. “It has waiting, novelty, shared amusement, and plenty of ‘can you see?’ moments. If two people can bond over cattle choreography and cowboy hats worn with varying levels of confidence, Texas has found a very on-brand meet-cute.”
The poll saved the best for last, honestly. According to respondents, the third most unexpectedly romantic spot in the state is the H-E-B tortilla line “because fresh tortillas make everyone slightly more neighborly.”
“People stand there sharing the wait for a grocery staple that feels like a reward. It is local, ordinary, and vibrant in the way only beloved supermarket rituals can be. If two people can flirt while discussing butter, salsa, or whether one bag is enough, Texas should probably start issuing marriage licenses near the warmer,” according to the poll.
It may seem like a random location, but Texans are pretty ride-or-die when it comes to our butter tortillas, to the point that H-E-B once sent thousands through airport security to give to passengers. There’s nothing like common ground to spark a connection.
