EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Hudspeth County has issued an emergency declaration after a disruption of water service in Sierra Blanca.
The emergency declaration was issued on Sunday, June 7, according to a notice posted on the Hudspeth County Facebook page.
The declaration says that Sierra Blanca Water Control and Improvement District No. 1, the sole public water provider for Sierra Blanca, “has experienced a series of mechanical failures and multiple line breaks that have resulted in an extended interruption of water service.”
“The interruption of water service creates conditions that may impact public health, sanitation, continuity of government operations, emergency services and general welfare within the affected area,” the declaration reads.
The County judge has determined that “extraordinary measures may be necessary to support coordination, protect public health and safety and assist affected residents and partner agencies,” according to the declaration.
As of about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the water department gave notice that a distribution tank is being filled. There is also a boil water notice in effect until further notice.
The disaster declaration will be in affect for no more than seven days unless continued or renewed by Hudspeth County Commissioners Court.
