EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A person was taken into custody on Monday, June 8, following a vehicle collision and police response along Loop 375 and Sergeant Major Boulevard. Loop 375, in that area is also known as “Liberty Expressway (Spur 601).”

According to El Paso Police Department spokeswoman Judy Oviedo, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:43 a.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle involved in a crash near Purple Heart Highway and Liberty Expressway.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an individual inside a vehicle who was armed with a weapon. An officer at the scene requested additional units for assistance.

“The officer did feel that additional assistance was needed,” Oviedo said.

The situation ended when the individual was taken into custody after being bitten by a police K-9. No injuries to law enforcement personnel were reported.

All north and southbound lanes along Loop 375 were shut down, according to the Texas Department of Transportation in El Paso.

Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police said Loop 375, which was affected during the response, will be reopened to traffic.
