No. 3 Texas A&M (8-0, 5-0 SEC) has looked like the most complete team in the country through eight games. As the bye week comes to a close, the Aggies will turn their attention to Missouri, facing the Tigers on the road next Saturday afternoon before consecutive home games vs. South Carolina and Samford.

This week, head coach Mike Elko, OC Collin Klein, and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman all spoke to the media, reflecting on this season’s historic success, while remembering that, despite being 8-0, there’s plenty to clean up before facing the Tigers, who will be desperate to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive.

However, that doesn’t mean the Aggies haven’t earned praise for their performance, including from what many consider to be the greatest college football head coach of all time, as former longtime Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show featured his take on who are the best two teams in the country heading into the final stretch of the 2025 season.

Saban, who is currently one of the hosts of ESPN’s College GameDay, alongside McAfee, was candid in his assessment, stating that Texas A&M and No. 1-ranked Ohio State are the two best teams in college football and two of just a handful of undefeated teams left.

“I would say that the two teams at this point in the season that have separated themselves from the pack, to me, is Ohio State, and Texas A&M,” Saban stated. “Marcel Redd has been a big part of that, and I think this guy has special talents, man. He’s improved as a passer, he’s got better receivers, better skill guys to play with him outside, and this guy can beat you with his feet.”

Saban went on to compare Marcel Reed to, you guessed it, Baltimore Ravens All-Pro quarterback Lamar Jackson due to their dual-threat running and improved pocket presence, which has made both players extremely difficult to scheme against.

Still, Saban is right to point out that transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver have made the difference, providing Reed with the speed and ability to separate that have elevated the passing game to new levels and, potentially, earn the Tennessee native a Heisman Trophy.
