The newest addition to the UTA family of schools is on the horizon as the construction of UTA West continues in Parker County.
Phase two of construction began in March, which includes the $149,500,000 main building that is set to hold all of the university’s operations in the beginning.
Collin Ward, director of capital projects, said in an email that the construction of the three-level 150,000 gross-square-foot building is on schedule, with completion scheduled for May 2028 and will be open to students and faculty for the fall 2028 semester.
“We are right on schedule,” Ward said.
UTA West will be positioned by the intersection of I-30 and I-20 in Parker County in west Fort Worth, according to previous Shorthorn reporting.
Initial construction began in December 2025 with phase one, which included the north parking lot, the entryway off I-30 and bringing infrastructure up to approximately 5 feet of the building, Ward said.

Construction is being handled by local contractors. Hensel Phelps, a construction company that has worked with the University of Texas System for 40 years, is the general contractor on the project, according to a UTA press release.
Ward said, including parking, all outdoor spaces and the building will total about 9 acres while the overall campus is 51 acres.
Academic offerings are still being finalized for the campus, but initial offerings are expected to include nursing, business and information technology programs “aligned with regional workforce needs,” according to the release.
The UT System Board of Regents approved the land purchase for UTA West during its August 5, 2024, meeting, according to previous Shorthorn reporting. Project planning began two years prior, when President Jennifer Cowley arrived at UTA.
Site preparation and earthwork are in progress while the building foundation and the retaining walls are being developed. Work is currently focused on foundational construction, entry signage and parking infrastructure, according to the release.
