EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Applications are now open for the 2026-27 Sun Court, a long-standing tradition of the Sun Bowl Association that selects young women to serve as ambassadors for El Paso and the organization throughout the year.

Applications are available online through the Sun Bowl Association and must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Friday, June 19. Interviews will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at the Sun Bowl Association offices.

The Sun Court traces its roots to 1935, when organizers created the court alongside the first Sun Bowl game. In its early years, approximately 30 young women participated in the formal court, with each representing a local organization. Today, the Sun Court consists of one queen and 10 to 14 young women who serve as community ambassadors.

Members of the Sun Court volunteer and appear at a variety of events throughout the year, including the Nusenda Credit Union Sun Bowl Pickleball Tournament, the Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers Sun Bowl Parade, the WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational and the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Game.

To be eligible, applicants must be women between the ages of 18 and 22 as of Sept. 1, 2026; have completed at least one year of college; maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA; and be enrolled full-time at a college or university. Applicants must submit an official application, transcript, one-page résumé, color headshot and a personal essay.

Applications may be submitted electronically or delivered to the Sun Bowl Association office at 4150 Pinnacle St., Suite 100. Additional information is available through the Sun Bowl Association on their website.
