EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The best friend of an El Paso teen who was tragically killed when he was hit by a car on Transmountain is inviting car enthusiasts to celebrate the life of his friend.
Andres Montanez, 19, was hit by a car on Loop 375, near mile marker 20, on May 30 at around 1:06 a.m.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Montanez was rushed to the hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

On Friday, KFOX14/CBS4 spoke with Carlos Fuentes, who said he was Montanez’s best friend since they were both in middle school, and is now inviting the community to the Sunset Funeral Home, where the plan is to honor the life and memory of his friend.

Fuentes said he first learned of his friend’s death through a social media post.
“I found out on Instagram on KFOX, it said that a car hit a pedestrian, 19 years old, and then when I was reading more about it, it happened to be my friend Andres,” Fuentes said.
Fuentes said the news was difficult to process.
“It was unreal at first couldn’t believe it. Still can’t believe it to this day that was him,” Carlos said.
Fuentes is asking car enthusiasts in the Borderland to show their love and support to Montanez’s family by bringing their car or sports bike to the funeral home at around 7:30 p.m.

The plan is that by 8 p.m., when the family has finished praying the rosary and they walk out, to have the parade of cars follow
“He wanted, he [was] into cars and all that Camaros, Challengers and Corvettes, you know those nice cars,” Fuentes said.
Carlos said relatives told him Montanez looked both ways before crossing the road.

What’s the latest with the investigation?
KFOX14/CBS4 reached out to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to learn if there had been any updates on the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office said Friday that the Special Traffic Investigators are continuing their investigation, adding that no charges have been filed.
