Noticed any well-known faces while out in San Antonio last week? Some celebrities in town for the Spurs vs. Knicks NBA Finals games are stepping out to explore the city. Don’t worry, they’re liking what they see.
One comedy star, Ben Stiller, of “Night at the Museum” fame, surprised a fan in the downtown area on Thursday, June 4. The 60-year-old actor stopped by Hotel Emma, located at 136 E. Grayson St. in the popular Pearl district. It happened the evening before the players faced one another at the Frost Bank Center, when our home team narrowly fell short, 105-104.
Resident Sarabia Mel tells MySA they saw the actor around 7:30 p.m. She described him as cool in a post shared on social media after their interaction. Stiller even agreed to record a video for Mel’s loved one to prove it happened.
“Her Fernando, how are ya? He said in the clip. “I’m a Knicks fan, I’m sorry. But good luck, Spurs,” he continued, flashing a thumbs up.
Stiller, an entertainer with more than three decades of acting experience, has been an outspoken basketball fan for even longer. He’s been spotted taking photos of 2024 Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama and courtside at several games, but his allegiance to the Knicks goes way back.
According to ESPN, Stiller began watching his home-state team in the early 1970s and caught their championship run by attending games with his late father, Jerry. He kept a poster of Willis Reed, an iconic center and power forward, on his bedroom wall.
Other notable figures, including “Severance’s” John Turturro, Timothée Chalamet, Paulina Chávez, Pete Davidson, Jordyn Woods, and Austin Mahone, have been spotted in San Antonio this month.
Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, at home, so keep your eyes peeled. There’s a chance you’ll bump into someone you’ve only seen on TV.
