DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — The data center being built in Santa Teresa drew renewed scrutiny as Dona Ana County commissioners heard concerns about the project’s potential impact on energy and other resources.
Community members raised questions regarding the energy and resource consumption of Project Jupiter, the $165 billion facility that is already under construction in the Santa Teresa desert.
Some community members are calling for the cancellation of an open house and career fair the company plans to hold next week, saying they want more transparency.

“Instead of letting these companies run another propaganda session next week, you should’ve invested county time and energy into a robust job fair with more than just these companies,” one speaker said during the commissioner meeting.
Another speaker said, “The community and open house meeting by Project Jupiter should not be treated as a substitute for a genuine public forum for serious education and discussion about the huge project proposed for Dona Ana County. If the county does regard it as such, it would be another false step by the county.”
Commissioners said they will continue getting feedback from the community and will seek help from experts, as well as from Project Jupiter, to address concerns.
