The Houston Stadium is here for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
For the duration of the tournament, NRG Stadium will be called “Houston Stadium,” as each of the other stadiums in the World Cup will be labeled by the city or region they’re in.

Ahead of Houston’s first match between Germany and Curaçao on June 14, the stadium has been decked out and prepped for hosting each of the seven matches of the tournament.

Inside the stadium, the massive natural grass pitch has been installed. The grass was grown in Colorado and shipped to Houston to be installed.
Massive grow lights, shipped in from the Netherlands, were out on the field, cultivating the grass, which will remain inside the stadium for the entirety of the tournament.

All but one of the seven matches Houston will host are in the middle of the day. The stadium will have its retractable roof closed for each match, but sunlight still streams through, lighting up the stadium so that even the nosebleed seats can have a good, bright view of the pitch.

In the bowels of the stadium, two locker rooms have been branded for the World Cup. Each one will have signage based on the national team using the locker room. When Houston Public Media visited the locker rooms, one was branded for Germany, while the other was for Curaçao.

Throughout the rest of the stadium, FIFA-branded concession stands were set up. Some Houston Texans and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo décor and signage will remain on display through the tournament, according to a FIFA spokesperson.
