Abbott activates state resources ahead of Texas flooding risk

  • June 12, 2026

AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) – Texans are urged to prepare for potentially dangerous weather this weekend and into early next week after Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources ahead of severe weather and flash flooding threats.

“The State of Texas is prepared to deploy all necessary resources to help local officials respond to potential severe weather and flash flooding across the state,” Abbott said in a statement, noting that Texans should monitor local forecasts, make emergency plans and heed guidance from state and local officials.

National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists say an approaching cold front is expected to begin in North and Northwest Texas, bringing multiple rounds of thunderstorms. NWS warns that the flash flooding risk could shift east, putting parts of Northeast and East Texas in danger.

Some storms could also produce damaging winds and large hail, according to NWS.

State agencies are positioning assets that could support local response efforts, including swiftwater rescue teams, rescue boats and helicopters capable of hoist rescues.
