Not as hot, windy or stormy today, rain chances increase heading into the weekend(Dylan Smith)
We’ve got an unsettled forecast as far as rain chances are concerned over the next several days, with the best shot of rain for most looking to be arriving Saturday night through Monday of this weekend.

FRIDAY
Most aspects of todays weather will be quieter in general from yesterday and last night. Winds won’t be as strong to start this morning, generally around 10 to 15 mph.
We have some cloud cover hanging around for a few hours this morning but we’ll see some sunshine by the afternoon if not earlier.
High temperatures today will stay on the warm but not scorching hot side of things, topping out around the 90 to 95 degree mark for most today.

Rain chances during the day are relatively slim but will pick up for our northern counties heading into later this evening and overnight tonight.

TONIGHT
A few shots of isolated showers will pass through our northern counties primarily and will generally not be a threat as far as severe weather goes. Overnight lows remain mild in the 60s and 70s.
EXTENDED WEATHER PATTERN
Saturday will look a lot of Friday, with a quieter day-time stretch as far as rain chances go.

Rain chances will begin picking up Saturday night and persist throughout a good chunk of the day Sunday and lasting into Monday before we see rain chances really begin to fade for most of the area. Chances for severe weather for Saturday are looking possible but not a major threat for now.

Drought has been greatly impacted by recent rainfall for a good chunk of the South Plains. Most of us have been downgraded to Moderate drought from what was Severe, and a good portion of the Extreme drought has been eliminated to a better category.
Great improvements have been made in lessening the drought across the South Plains. Last week showed 90%+ of the area under Severe drought and quite a bit of Extreme drought as well. This week shows an improvement to mostly Moderate drought with some areas of Severe.(Dylan Smith)
