Merit Coffee Company has operated in Texas for more than 15 years. One place Merit hasn’t done business in is Houston. That’s changing as the San Antonio-based coffee chain is opening three new locations in the region starting this summer.
Merit will open its first Houston location in early July at 5115 Buffalo Speedway in West University. The coffee chain will open two more locations at the Swift Building in the Heights and at the Greenside in Memorial City sometime this winter.
“For years, we’ve dreamed about bringing Merit to Houston,” Merit CEO Bill Ellis said in a statement. “Houston has one of the most exciting food and beverage cultures anywhere in the country, and we’ve been intentional about finding the right neighborhoods, partners, and opportunities to establish roots here. Opening our first café in West University is just the beginning.”
Merit has not announced opening dates for its three upcoming Houston locations. Each café will serve the brand’s signature coffees, teas and refreshers. The specialty coffee roaster sources beans from Central America, South America and Africa. Customers can also expect a curated selection of handcrafted pastries and savory bites from local bakery Cake & Bacon.

The first Merit Coffee Company opened in San Antonio in 2009. Today, the chain operates 14 locations in San Antonio, Austin and Dallas. Merit can also be found at grocery stores, including H-E-B, Sprouts Farmers Market and Whole Foods Market.
