H-E-B is making moves in Fort Worth for a new store.
Earlier this week, the Fort Worth City Council approved a request to rezone roughly five acres in the area owned by H-E-B, according to a city website. It moved it from “AG” agricultural to “I” light industrial with the proposed use of a “large retail store.”
The San Antonio-based grocer expanded the land it holds in the area on the northern side of the city, lifting it to around 22 acres from about 17 acres, according to Mabrie Jackson, managing director, public affairs, H-E-B/Central Market. While a store is planned for the property, there is no timeline at this point.
The slice of property is near the intersection of Blue Mound and E. Bonds Ranch roads in Fort Worth. It’s also about a three-mile drive from an H-E-B on Heritage Trace Parkway.
The company continues to invest and build around the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area as it pushes against more entrenched players such as Kroger, Tom Thumb and Walmart. H-E-B has unveiled plans to open its namesake store in Irving later in June, following the launch of another site in the Euless area just last month.
Other stores cover cities such as Plano and Forney, and there are plans for more in cities such as Dallas and Garland.
