EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso Independent School District has warned the state that it will lay off almost 250 people.
This all comes from a letter the district sent to the Texas Workforce Commission on Sunday, where the district notified the commission of the jobs it will cut due to ongoing funding issues.
The deadline for the cuts is set for June 19.
The bulk of the jobs being cut involve teachers, clerks, social workers, paraprofessionals, and family, community & military liaisons.

In the letter, the district lists resources it will provide to employees being laid off, such as employment opportunities elsewhere in the district, help finding a job or changing careers, as well as unemployment insurance guidance.

As it was reported earlier, the El Paso Teachers Association said some of its members told the organization they started getting notifications on Tuesday night that they were on a list being taken to the school board next week.
On Tuesday, the El Paso school district confirmed it had begun notifying employees of cut positions, with a total of 63 employees receiving notices.
Representatives from the El Paso Teachers Association are urging any impacted employee not to resign, saying resigning would make them ineligible for unemployment benefits.
The cuts come after EPISD trustees approved a plan last week that includes cutting more than 200 positions districtwide, including 54 teacher positions.
The move comes as the district declared financial exigency, allowing for termination of contracts, employment agreements, and programs without penalties.
