No. 4 seed Texas Tech women’s soccer will play No. 5 seed Baylor University at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Tournament in Fort Worth for the second year in a row.
Last season, Tech beat Baylor 2-1 in the quarterfinal game of the 2024 Big 12 Tournament. Previously, the quarterfinal games served as the second round of the tournament. The tournament has since changed format, and the quarterfinal round will serve as the first round of the 2025 Big 12 Tournament.
The Red Raiders are coming off a 0-0 tie against the University of Central Florida. The tie was Tech’s third in conference play this season, according to Tech Athletics.
Playoffs don’t include ties, so Tech head coach Tom Stone said when the game gets to the 70th or 80th minute in a tie, he will begin to substitute out players to give the starters a break before overtime.
Overtime consists of two full 10-minute halves. If the game remains tied after both 10-minute periods, a penalty kick shootout will follow to determine the winner.
The two teams met earlier in the season when Tech beat Baylor 1-0 on Sept. 19 in Waco. The game served as Tech’s fifth consecutive win against Baylor. Tech’s most recent loss to Baylor was in 2021, according to Tech Athletics.
The match livestream will be available on ESPN+ and the ESPN App.
The winner of the matchup will play the winner of No. 1 seed TCU and No. 8 seed Brigham Young University at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Worth.
