Texans already have plenty of reasons to love H-E-B. Soon, shoppers at several locations may have even more reasons to shop, as the grocery giant rolls out major upgrades.
The San Antonio-based chain has submitted plans to renovate some of its stores through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Locations slated for a glow-up include San Antonio and Corpus Christi. The work is expected to cost a total of $829,196 across both projects.
According to TDLR reports, which are subject to change at the project developer’s discretion, the renovations are part of the company’s Fresh Initiative program. Shoppers at the Leon Springs H-E-B, located at 24165 W. I-10, Suite 300, near the luxurious Dominion community, will see 330 square feet of the store’s interior remodeled. The work is scheduled to begin in August and wrap up in early October.
Meanwhile, further south, the H-E-B at 3313 S. Alameda in Nueces County has also greenlit a 100-square-foot renovation. Online records indicate that crews will start work in late August and complete the work quickly. All tasks should be completed around mid-September, per the TDLR report.
H-E-B spokesperson Valentino Lucio tells MySA that part of the initiative includes adding equipment to support hot-food programs at each location. In some cases, these renovations will support the expansion of Meal Simple assortment,” Lucio said.
Additional details about the changes were not immediately available. However, past activities with the Fresh Initiative give shoppers a better sense of what is possible. At the Potranco Road market, the project involved replacing refrigerators to improve the deli department. In Belton, near Austin, customers received an entirely new food service area.
The retail giant is also investing in other parts of the company. Less than a month ago, it announced a $700 million plan to expand its supply chain by building a facility on San Antonio’s Eastside. Officials have said the campus would include a bakery, a refrigerated warehouse and a transportation building, among other features.

H-E-B owns roughly 820 acres off Foster Road near Lakeside, according to a press release, so it may build it there. If and when operations at the site begin, more than 700 new full-time jobs will be added to the local economy, with an additional 500 expected by 2038.
According to the TDLR, other cities with stores tapped for H-E-B’s Fresh Initiative overhaul in June 2026 include Leander, Georgetown, Kingwood, Killeen, Kerrville, Houston and Austin.
