LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – More than a dozen students celebrated earning their GED at Mahon Library on Saturday.
Students and their families attended the ceremony for Literacy Lubbock’s GED program, which is free along with other adult literacy programs including GED prep. The programs are supported by volunteers and community partners.
William Catalan, a Literacy Lubbock board member who went through the program, said the graduates now have new opportunities.
“They will feel qualified to be able to apply for jobs and different opportunities, now that they have the piece of paper, and it truly means a lot because that’s how I got my start, was just getting a piece of paper saying I was a graduate, and from there, sky was the limit,” Catalan said. “And so it definitely means a lot to me now they have the opportunity to do the same.”
