Schertz residents got their first taste of Portillo’s Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago-style hot dogs earlier this month, but folks within the Alamo City are still left wanting. Despite Portillo’s opening numerous restaurants across Texas, and many more still in the works, San Antonio residents still have to hop on I-35 in order to test out the food for themselves.

The Schertz opening, combined with a ribbon cutting at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, brought Portillo’s to 20 restaurants in the Lone Star State. So, while San Antonio is waiting, and maybe praying, for news of Portillo’s coming to town, here’s everywhere else they can find the restaurant in the meantime.

Another restaurant in Del Valle, east of Austin, was also announced in January 2025 but it’s unclear if that Portillo’s is still in development.
