Today, June 15, Sunny’s is opening the doors to its new location at The Rim Shopping Center, where it will operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. MySA got a sneak peek at the new location ahead of today’s launch, trying out some of the food and drink options while taking in the surroundings.
The brunch restaurant is sure to be popular amongst the dedicated brunchgoers that fill up local go-tos, like Box Street and La Panadería, every free weekend, but it’s also likely to bring out the overlapping influencer crowd with its crisp, nature-inspired interiors and indie cool soundtrack. From the floral-covered ceilings to the seemingly faux lemon trees planted around the restaurants, there’s a lot to take in at the new Sunny’s that’ll make for eye-catching content.
Still, the menu will be the ultimate decider in Sunny’s success at The Rim, and from what we experienced, the eatery is swinging big with some of its trendy takes on time-honored classics. Barbacoa chilaquiles or the Dubai chocolate pancakes share screen time (the menu was accessed via QR code) with more traditional brunch items like eggs Benedict and chicken and waffles.
We were curious enough about the Dubai chocolate pancakes, a decadent treat that came in a stack of three with spreads of chocolate, sliced strawberries and pistachio cream between each layer. The pancakes were also dressed with whipped cream, crushed pistachios and berries, providing different textures to the dish. Before that, we had the shareable watermelon and feta plate, which was bright and refreshing with a touch of acidity from the dressing.
To drink, Sunny’s has a full cocktail menu with new and textbook libations and a serviceable coffee lineup that mirrors the food’s creativity. The tiramisu latte came highly recommended by a server, and it arrived lightly sweetened with just enough coffee to kick-start a morning (or afternoon) of activities. The long cookie that came on top of the latter worked both as a garnish and a little bite before or after drinking.
Sunny’s at The Rim appears to be off to a solid start, at least by soft opening standards. Of course, they’re still working out the small details (at one point, the music started skipping like a Walkman), but the food is fun, the vibes are chill and the staff is incredibly friendly. All good things to bring to the brunch table.
